Department of Corrections

TE2 Engineering was hired to analyze the energy use for a Correctional facility, and subsequently design a solar thermal system to serve the domestic hot water needs for the facility. The building consumes about 6,600 gallons per day of hot water (2.4 Million gallons per year) mostly used for kitchen, laundry and shower use. The hot water was previously provided by large tank-type oil fired water heaters. Our solution involved a 64 collector solar thermal system with 2,250 gallons of storage capacity. The system produces over 50% of their annual hot water demand.
